Australia had been on our bucket list for quite some time, and we decided to finally visit when I was 6 months into my pregnancy. It’s a matter of chance that we happened to be there for the Chinese New Year 2019. This new year was a long weekend in China, and so the Chinese decided to make the most of it; Australia being their obvious choice. The more we explored Sydney, the more we realized how big a deal this Lunar new year was. Our thoughts were reaffirmed when we saw a huge pig right outside the most beautiful monument of the country, the Opera House.
This is the year of pig as per the chinese zodiac calender. Ok! Koalas, Kangaroos, penguins were definitely on our bucket list. Pigs? Not so much. Intrigued by the portrayal of this animal almost everywhere we went, i decided to do some more research. A pig represents luck, overall good fortune, wealth, honesty, general prosperity, symbolizing a hard working, a peace-loving person, a truthful, generous, indulgent, patient, reliable, trusting, sincere, giving, sociable person with a large sense of humour and understanding.At least that’s what google said. That made me happy, as my kiddo was going to be all of the above😂.
Naturally Chinatown jumped up on our list, and it dint disappoint us a bit.Apart from the lantern decoration, area offers authentic Japanese, Chinese and other south-east asian cuisine.
